"Healing on the Streets", as a model for city centre prayer, was pioneered by a Vineyard church in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. They provide training materials and a program to follow that seems an ideal resource for groups of churches working together. Using this model, a number of churches in Bradford are working together to provide bi-weekly teams at the bottom of Ivegate that offer prayer, and specifically prayer for healing, to those shopping in the city centre. Starting in February 2010, the teams will meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturday's from 11 am and pray until 11.30 am. They will then set up a row of 4 chairs at the bottom of Ivegate (outside Co-Op bank), next to a 5m banner with “Healing” written down it. From 11.30 am until 1 pm the team is available to pray with passers-by.
There will be small flyers that explain who we are and what we are doing, but the approach is very relaxed. The team are there in the presence of God to bless the city centre, and as a witness to the extraordinary love of God for people. When people receive prayer they are given a short follow-up letter, with details of local churches, and will be sign-posted to one in their area. This letter will be in an envelope also containing a copy of the ‘Why Jesus?’ booklet.
